It isn’t so much that the writing life consumes all of my time as it is that it consumes all of my thoughts. If I’m folding laundry, I’m writing in my head. If I’m walking, I’m writing in my head. If I’m sleeping, I’m writing in my head. Writing has become the oxygen that surrounds everything without displacing anything, while at the same time making me wonder how I survived without it.

Yes Janet. – Me too! In fact I came up with an idea for a short story “Sald Days” last summer while folding the laundry – and so that became my 1st line.
“Folding the laundry this hot summer afternoon, I’m still thinking about it.”
I’ve learnt to carry a notebook with me everywhere to catch those 1st lines /images – if you get them down in the vividity of the moment, they are far less likely to blur and lose their clarity. Thanks for commenting. 🙂
